It essentially freezes the backup engine and ceases all CPU usage and IO activity.
Pausing is primarily meant for short-term suspension of a running backup, when you just need to take off *all* load from the system *now*. The principal difference between pausing-resuming and cancelling-re-running is that latter will involve a fresh rescan of both locations.

In other words, if you have 1,000,000 files to back up, you run the backup and cancel it after it processes first 300,000 files, then on the next run it will process just 700,000 files, not the full million. You can re-create the shortcut by unchecking the option, closing Preferences window, opening it again, checking the option and closing the Preferences. Upon rebooting, Bvckup 2 was sitting on the desktop instead of starting minimized. Hello, I am looking for a command to update Bvckup before starting it. BUT, if I pause it, and had to shut down, then next time I switch on the computer, and run the backup, it would have to start again? If you do and if the app doesn't start on launch, then something is removing the shortcut that bvckup2 creates in the Startup folder (this is a standard way to launch non-admin apps on logon).
